Dojo Rules and Etiquette

Train not to get it right but to never do it wrong

  • Be punctual - if late for a session, you MUST ask a coach before coming onto the mat
  • NO shoes on the mat
  • ALWAYS wear shoes to and from the mat to keep your feet clean
  • Don't wear any jewellery onto the mat or any hair ties containing metal, plastic or other hard material
  • No bad language in the dojo
  • Fingernails must be short and no jewellery is to be worn
  • Bring a big enough water bottle to training so that you don't have to refill it during the session. Leave the bottle along the edge of the mat with your shoes
  • Do not sit during training unless advised by your instructor
  • If you are sitting on the mat either kneel (seiza) or cross your legs
  • If you need to leave the mat or the dojo you must advise your instructor and bow off
  • Above all, train and fight hard and have respect for our fellow judoka
